A 15-second clip usually takes two to six minutes — every frame is cut out separately.

Quick answer

Upload a clip of up to 15 seconds, choose transparent, a solid colour, a blurred background or your own photo, and download the result. An AI model finds the subject for you, so no green screen is needed.

Key facts

  • Works on ordinary video - no green screen required
  • Clips up to 15 seconds and 120 MB
  • Transparent output is a WebM with a real alpha channel
  • Also does green screen, any solid colour, blur, or your own image
  • Keeps the original audio track
  • Free, no sign-up and no watermark
  • Takes roughly two to six minutes, because every frame is processed separately

What is this tool?

This tool separates the subject of a video from whatever is behind them, frame by frame, and replaces the background with whatever you choose. It uses an AI segmentation model to find the subject, which is why it works on an ordinary video shot in an ordinary room - you do not need a green screen, special lighting or any particular camera.

It is the same cut-out engine as our image background remover, applied to every frame of a clip rather than to one photograph.

How to use it

Upload your clip, choose one of the four background styles, and press the button. The page shows real progress while the work happens on the server, so you can leave the tab open and come back to it. Refreshing the page reconnects to the same job rather than starting over.

  1. Drop a video of up to 15 seconds onto the page, or click to choose one.
  2. Pick a background: transparent, a solid colour such as green screen, a blurred version of the original, or upload your own photo.
  3. Press Remove background and watch the progress bar - you can leave the tab open and do something else.
  4. Preview the result and download it.

Common use cases

Putting a talking-head clip over a slide or a different scene.|Making a transparent overlay for a video edit, such as a presenter in the corner.|Producing a green screen version of a clip that was never filmed on one, so you can key it in your own editor.|Blurring a messy room behind you before sharing a clip.|Dropping a chosen photo behind you for a product or social post.

Limitations

Clips are limited to 15 seconds and 120 MB. That is not an arbitrary restriction: the background is removed from every frame individually, so a 15-second clip at 24 frames per second is around 360 separate cut-outs, and it takes a few minutes of server time. A longer clip would take longer than anyone reasonably waits on a free tool, and would keep everybody else queued behind it.

The cut-out is very good on people and clear subjects, and less reliable on fine detail such as loose hair, thin objects, or a subject the same colour as what is behind them. Fast motion can also make edges shimmer slightly from frame to frame, because each frame is judged on its own.

Transparent output is a WebM file. Safari and PowerPoint cannot play transparent WebM - if you need it there, use the green screen option and key it out in your editor instead.

Privacy & your data

Your video is uploaded to our server, processed there, and served back to you for download. It is not published anywhere, and no account is required to use the tool. Processing needs the whole file on the server, so it cannot happen in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a green screen?

No. The tool uses an AI model to find the subject itself, so an ordinary video shot in an ordinary room works. A green screen is not needed and does not improve the result.

How long can the video be?

Up to 15 seconds and 120 MB. The background is removed from every frame separately, so longer clips would take far longer than is reasonable on a free tool. Trim your clip to the part you need.

How long does it take?

Usually two to six minutes for a 15-second clip. The page shows real progress while it works, and you can leave the tab open and come back.

Is the background really transparent?

Yes - transparent mode produces a WebM with a real alpha channel that you can drop straight into a video editor. Note that Safari and PowerPoint cannot play transparent WebM; use the green screen option if you need it there.

Does it keep the sound?

Yes. The original audio is copied across unchanged. Only the picture is altered.

Is there a watermark?

No. The result is your video, unmarked, and there is no sign-up.
