Where the audio comes from

  • Public domain and open licences — the Internet Archive, Wikimedia Commons and LibriVox, where the licence is published and shown with the file.
  • Podcasts — any public RSS feed, and the major hosts. A feed's episode enclosure is the publisher pointing at the file they mean to be downloaded.
  • Creator-authorised audio — recordings whose creator has published them for download.
  • Direct links — a URL that points straight at an audio file, checked to be genuine audio before you get it.

What these tools will not do

  • They do not take audio from streaming services, and they never will. Music on a subscription service is licensed and often DRM-protected.
  • They do not extract the playback stream when a creator has not enabled downloading.
  • They do not use logins, cookies or credentials to reach anything.
  • They do not process private feeds, paid episodes or subscriber-only content.

Can I download tracks that are for sale?

No. Being able to play something is not permission to keep it. These tools only handle sources that publish a download - public-domain and openly licensed material, podcast feeds that provide an episode file, and tracks whose creator has switched downloading on. Where permission cannot be verified, the download is refused.

What audio quality will I get?

Whatever the platform published. The tool cannot produce a higher quality than the source stream.
