Our story

Built in a quiet office,
for everyone who builds.

A2Z Tools started in a lockdown, with an empty project board and a simple question: why do we keep using everybody else's tools? Five years later it is home to 1,122 free tools, and it is still made by the same small team in Bengaluru.

Chapter 1

The lockdown that changed the plan

When COVID-19 shut the world down, the client work at Reliable Software Technology went quiet too. For the first time in years the team had no project waiting on Monday morning.

Syed Salman, the software architect who would go on to create A2Z Tools, spent his days the way most developers do: jumping between other people's websites to test a push notification, minify a stylesheet, check a meta tag or turn an image into Base64. Every one of those sites had ads in the way, a sign-up wall, or a limit that arrived just when you needed it.

“Why can't we build all of this ourselves? Everything we make goes to a client and lives or dies by their mood. Reliable Software Technology should own something of its own, something public.”

Syed Salman, creator of A2Z Tools

So the search for a name began. We wanted one word that promised everything, from A to Z, and we found it: a2z.tools.

Chapter 2

30 September 2021: the first commit

On 30 September 2021 the repository was created and the first code went in. A day later the first two tools were live, Image to Base64 and Base64 to Image. Within two weeks there were minifiers, a QR code generator, a password generator, an age calculator and, of course, the Push Notification Tester that started the whole idea.

Chapter 3

Year by year

Not a straight line. Growth came in bursts, and some years were simply about keeping the lights on.

  1. 2021

    The first hundred

From two Base64 converters in October to roughly 120 pages by the end of the year: developer utilities, SEO checks, calculators and unit converters. The first logo, a playful A·2·Z in three circles, went up on 6 October.

  2. 2022

    Widgets and a new face

We went past 200 pages and built our first products for website owners: WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, Viber and All-in-One chat widgets, the YouTube thumbnail downloader and a resume maker with PDF export. In November the site got its second logo, a bold dark A beside the wordmark, along with a dark mode.

  3. 2023
    –2024

    The steady years

Client projects came back and A2Z Tools ran on its own. Visitors kept arriving and the tools kept working. At the end of 2024 the site was rebuilt underneath, with a new layout and dynamic headers ready for what came next.

  4. 2025

    AI, accounts and extensions

The AI Writer arrived, the resume maker gained accounts and saved CVs, the blog launched and A2Z Tools appeared in the Chrome, Firefox and Edge extension stores. The site finished the year with about 350 pages.

  5. 2026

From A to Z, for real

The biggest year by far. Live Chat, network and security tools, music tools and a device health check came first. In August the homepage was redesigned around the third logo, a gradient A that travels from blue to coral. September brought 450 new tools in a single month, followed by embeddable widgets, our own browser extensions, an Android app, the A2Z Workspace suite of business apps, and a catalogue of 1,122 tools.

Chapter 5

One name, three logos

Each logo marks a chapter. Put side by side, they show how the site grew up.

2021
The first A2Z Tools logo: A, 2 and Z in three circles beside the word tools
The circles. Friendly and handmade: three letters in rings with a handwritten “tools”. It said exactly what we were then, a small side project.
2022
The second A2Z Tools logo: a dark angular A beside the a2z.tools wordmark
The monogram. A confident, angular A and the full domain as the name. Simpler and serious, made for a site that was turning into a product.
2026
The current A2Z Tools logo: a gradient A in blue, purple and coral beside a2z.tools
The journey. The same A, now a gradient running from the blue of the letter A to the coral of Z, the whole alphabet in a single mark.

Chapter 6

Twenty-six letters, one road of colour

When the third logo arrived, its gradient became a rule for the whole site. Every letter got its own place on the road from blue to coral: A starts in blue, Z ends in coral, and every tool takes the colour of its first letter, right down to its icon. On the homepage you tap a letter to see its tools. Here, tap one to see its story.

What hasn't changed since day one

Free, without the catch

Most tools work straight away, with no sign-up and no trial that runs out.

How we keep it

The tools are paid for by ads, not by you. If the ads get in your way, Ad-Free removes them, and the tools stay exactly the same.

Fast and to the point

A tool should open, do its job and get out of your way. Many run entirely in your browser.

How we keep it

Converters, calculators, formatters and many image and PDF tools do their work in your browser, so there is no upload to wait for.

Your files stay yours

Where a tool can work on your device, it does. What has to reach our server is processed and deleted.

How we keep it

Tools that run in your browser never upload your file at all. The ones that need our server, like video downloads, clean up after themselves.

Built by people who use it

Every tool started as something we needed ourselves. That is still how we decide what to build next.

How we keep it

The Push Notification Tester exists because we needed it. So does most of what followed, and the contact page is how your ideas join the list.

Chapter 8

Milestones, and the road ahead

Every flag behind us started as a goal in front of us. These are the ones we are driving towards now.

  1. Sep 2021 First commit The repository is born in a lockdown.
  2. Oct 2021 The first 24 tools Push notification tester, minifiers, Base64 and more.

The big goal

10,000 tools. Every industry. One platform.

Goal

Every letter, at least 25 tools

No thin letters in the alphabet. Right now the thinnest is X, with 7.

Next milestone

AI plugins

A2Z tools inside the AI assistants and apps you already use, so your assistant can convert, calculate or check with a real tool instead of guessing.

Next milestone

A growing family of AI tools and apps

More AI for writing, images, audio and video, and AI apps in the Workspace, each one built to finish a real job, not to show off a demo.

Next milestone

Run a small business on A2Z

One account, only the apps you choose: invoices, quotations, contracts and the everyday work in between, inside A2Z Workspace.

Next milestone

More of A2Z in your pocket

More Android apps that do one job well and keep your files on your phone.

Next milestone

A family of A2Z typefaces

More fonts of our own, free to try in the browser before you download.

Summary you can paste

A2Z Tools (a2z.tools) is a free online toolbox of 1,122 tools for files, media, text, the web and everyday work. It began during the COVID lockdown in 2021 at Reliable Software Technology, a software company in Bengaluru, India, when software architect Syed Salman came up with the idea to build the developer tools his team kept borrowing from other sites. Today it also offers embeddable widgets, chat widgets, the A2Z Workspace suite of business apps, browser extensions, Android apps and its own fonts.

Story angles

  • The lockdown project. A software company with no client work builds the tools it kept borrowing, and ends up with 1,122 of them.
  • A team, one repository. From a single developer in a lockdown to a small team shipping tools every week, all in one codebase.
  • An alphabet with colours. How one gradient logo became the design system for every letter, tool and icon.
  • Free, without the catch. Building a large free toolbox with no sign-up wall, paid for by ads instead of users.
