A plain iframe. Works everywhere, including site builders that strip scripts. Adjust height if your content needs more room.
<div data-a2z-widget="oman-remittance-cost-calculator" data-height="1050"></div> <script async src="https://a2z.tools/embed.js"></script>
Adds a small script (what it does) that sizes the widget to fit its content, loads it lazily and keeps it isolated from your page's CSS.
Works with
How it works
Oman's large Indian, Bangladeshi and Pakistani workforce - in construction around Muscat, on farms in Al Batinah, in the fisheries of Sur and the ports of Sohar and Salalah - sends money home every month, and the Omani rial's strength makes small differences expensive: at about 215 rupees per rial, a spread of one per cent on OMR 200 is over 400 rupees lost. The rial is tied to the US dollar at USD 2.6008, so changes in what a family receives come almost entirely from the destination currency and the exchange company's margin. This widget does not query any provider from the visitor's browser; the reference comes from one A2Z server table refreshed for all GCC remittance widgets and the currency converter. You can state the margin as a percentage or type the rate printed on your receipt, choose whether the counter fee is added or taken from the amount, and read the amount received, the true rate after the fee and the cost in rials to the baisa. Typing a rate yourself still works when the reference table is unavailable.
Calculation method
- Reference rate = destination per USD / 0.3845 from the shared table
- Recipient gets = (amount - fee if inside) x provider rate
- Cost = amount paid - recipient amount / reference rate, to the baisa
Worked examples
OMR to INR
Inputs: OMR 200; fee 1.500 on top; reference 215.865
Result: Recipient gets INR 43,172.95
A cost comparison, not a quote.
Limitations
- Provider fees and rates are your inputs.
- The reference can lag the market.
- Receiving-country charges are not included.
Where publishers use it
- A Keralite or Bangladeshi community page in Muscat
- An exchange company's transparent fee table
- A worker-welfare guide to sending wages home
Questions
Is the Omani rial pegged?
Yes, at USD 2.6008 per rial (about 0.3845 OMR per USD) since 1986, so OMR rates move only with the destination currency.
Why three decimals?
The rial is divided into 1,000 baisa, and on large rupee amounts the third decimal matters.
Which currencies are included?
INR, PKR, BDT, PHP, NPR, LKR and EGP presets, plus GCC currencies, USD, EUR and GBP.
