How it works

1. Add your audio

Upload an audio or video file, record straight from your microphone, or paste a direct link to a public media file. Video works too — only the audio track is used.

2. Transcribe

You see real upload progress, then the job moves through the queue and transcription. The language is detected automatically, and a refresh reconnects to a job already running.

3. Review & export

Search, fix any line, read it as paragraphs, play along with the audio, then copy it or download TXT, SRT, VTT, JSON or Markdown — or send it to the Teleprompter.

Questions people ask

Does it detect the language automatically?

Yes — across more than 90 languages, detected from the audio itself, so you do not have to pick one. If you already know the language and want to be certain, choose it before transcribing.

Can I record my voice instead of uploading?

Yes. Open the Record tab and allow microphone access when your browser asks. You can pause, resume, listen back and record again; nothing is uploaded until you press Transcribe, and then the recording is sent just like a file.

Can I transcribe from a link?

Yes, when the link points directly to a public audio or video file or a podcast episode. Private, internal and login-protected addresses are refused for safety, and some streaming pages can't be read — downloading the file and uploading it always works.

Can it transcribe songs?

Yes, but lyrics are genuinely harder than clear speech — backing instruments and singing style both get in the way — so expect some inaccuracy on music. It is tuned not to get stuck repeating one line, the usual failure with songs.

Can I correct mistakes?

Yes. Switch on Edit and click any line to fix it. Copy, every download and your saved history all use the corrected text.

Which files can I upload?

Audio: MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG, OPUS, AAC, WMA, AMR. Video: MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM, AVI, FLV, 3GP. Up to 500 MB.

How long does it take?

Roughly a third to a half of the recording's length on a typical file, so a 10-minute recording lands in about 3–5 minutes. The progress bar reflects the upload and then the server's real progress through the audio.

Are my files kept?

Uploads are held only long enough to transcribe them and are removed by routine cleanup afterwards. Your transcript history is stored in your own browser and is never sent to us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our audio to text converter

Our audio to text converter supports most common audio formats including MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG, and more. If you have a specific format not listed here, please try uploading it as we may still support it.

Our transcription accuracy depends on the audio quality and clarity of speech. For clear audio with a single speaker, we typically achieve 90-95% accuracy. For best results, ensure your audio has minimal background noise and the speaker enunciates clearly.

Yes, the current file size limit is 200MB. For longer recordings, we recommend splitting them into smaller segments. This ensures optimal processing speed and reliability.

Processing time depends on the length and quality of your audio file. As a general rule, processing takes about 1/4 of the audio's duration. So a 60-minute file would take approximately 15 minutes to process.

Quick answer

Upload an audio file and the tool transcribes its spoken content into text using an AI transcription service, processed on A2Z Tools' server.

Key facts

  • Processing is handled by forwarding your audio file to A2Z Tools' own dedicated transcription service, not your browser
  • Accuracy depends on audio clarity, background noise, accents, and speech pace
  • This is AI-based automatic speech recognition, not human transcription -- review the output for errors
  • Free to use, no signup required

What is this tool?

This tool converts spoken audio into written text using an AI transcription service, useful for transcribing interviews, meetings, voice memos, or any recorded speech into an editable text format.

How to use it

Upload your audio file, wait while it's processed by A2Z Tools' transcription service, then review and copy the resulting text, correcting any recognition errors.
  1. Upload the audio file you want transcribed.
  2. Wait while the file is sent to A2Z Tools' transcription service and processed.
  3. Review the transcribed text.
  4. Copy or download the transcription, correcting any errors as needed.

Example

Example: uploading a 5-minute voice memo returns a text transcription of the spoken content, which you should review for any misheard words before using it.

How it works

Your uploaded audio file is forwarded from A2Z Tools' server to a separate, dedicated AI transcription service that performs automatic speech recognition and returns the resulting text, which is then displayed to you.

Common use cases

  • Transcribing an interview or meeting recording into text.
  • Converting voice memos into editable notes.
  • Creating a text version of a podcast or recorded talk.
  • Getting a rough draft transcription to edit into final captions or subtitles.

Benefits

Free and saves significant time compared to manually transcribing audio by hand.

Limitations

AI transcription accuracy is not guaranteed -- background noise, overlapping speakers, strong accents, technical jargon, or poor audio quality can all reduce accuracy; always review and correct the transcription before using it for anything important, such as official records or publication.

Privacy & your data

Your uploaded audio file is sent from A2Z Tools' server to a separate, dedicated transcription service to perform the actual speech-to-text conversion -- this is server-side/external-service processing, not browser-only. We do not have independent visibility into that separate service's internal data-retention practices from this codebase.
