Vimeo Thumbnail Downloader

Paste a public Vimeo video link to get its thumbnail at the frame size Vimeo actually stores, plus the smaller sizes Vimeo generates from it. Every size is loaded and measured before it is shown.

  • Real sizes, measured
  • Largest size marked
  • Download or copy URL
  • ZIP of every size

How the Vimeo Thumbnail Downloader works

1. Paste a Vimeo link

The address is checked against Vimeo's own domains before anything is requested.

2. Public metadata is read

Our server asks Vimeo's public metadata service which images exist, then loads and measures each one.

3. Download

Save the size you need, copy its URL, or download every size as a ZIP.

Supported input

  • vimeo.com/123456789
  • vimeo.com/channels/staffpicks/123456789
  • vimeo.com/showcase/.../video/123456789
  • player.vimeo.com/video/123456789
  • Unlisted share links (vimeo.com/123456789/abcdef1234)

Limitations

  • Private and password-protected videos cannot be read.
  • Vimeo resizes thumbnails on request, so sizes larger than the stored frame are left out rather than offered as fake HD.
  • Vimeo may serve a cropped embed thumbnail; it is labelled separately from the stored frame.

How your data is handled. The link you enter is sent to A2Z.Tools so our server can read the platform's public metadata and check each image. We do not store the link, and our analytics record only the platform, how many images were found and any error code. Images are downloaded through a short-lived link that stops working after about 30 minutes.

What the Vimeo Thumbnail Downloader does

This tool reads the thumbnail Vimeo publishes for a public video and shows every available image with its measured width, height and file size. It is meant for video owners who need the poster frame of their own upload, editors assembling a showcase or press kit, and web teams checking what a Vimeo embed will display before a page goes live.

Supported Vimeo links

  • Standard video pages such as vimeo.com/123456789
  • Channel, group, album and showcase addresses that contain the numeric ID, for example vimeo.com/channels/staffpicks/123456789
  • Player embeds: player.vimeo.com/video/123456789
  • Unlisted share links that carry the hash after the ID, such as vimeo.com/123456789/abcdef1234

The address is checked against Vimeo’s own domains before anything is requested. Our server then asks Vimeo’s public oEmbed service which thumbnail belongs to the video.

What you get

Vimeo’s image server resizes a thumbnail to almost any size you ask for — including sizes larger than the frame it actually stores. A 640 × 480 upload can be served several times wider, which is an upscale rather than an HD thumbnail. The tool therefore starts from the stored frame:

  • Stored frame (original size) – the frame as Vimeo keeps it
  • Vimeo embed thumbnail – the image oEmbed returns, which can be cropped, so it is labelled on its own
  • Resized by Vimeo, 1280 wide and 640 wide – shown only when they are not wider than the stored frame
  • Small, 295 wide – a compact preview size

Each image is loaded and measured before it appears, the largest one is marked, and you can download a single size, copy its URL or save every size as a ZIP.

Common uses

  • Recovering the poster frame of a video you uploaded when the original export is not at hand
  • Checking which frame an embedded Vimeo player shows on your site
  • Using a client’s approved thumbnail as a reference during a design review
  • Archiving the thumbnails of your own portfolio videos

Limitations

  • Private and password-protected videos cannot be read.
  • Sizes larger than the stored frame are left out instead of being offered as fake HD.
  • If Vimeo returns a thumbnail address in an unexpected form, only that single image is offered.

Privacy

The link you enter is sent to A2Z.Tools so our server can ask Vimeo for the video’s thumbnail and check each image. We do not store the link, and our analytics record only the platform, how many images were found and any error code. Images are delivered through a short-lived download link that stops working after about 30 minutes.

Copyright

Download thumbnails and cover artwork only for content you own, have permission to use, or for legally permitted reference, research or personal use. The copyright remains with the original creator or rights holder.

Frequently asked questions

Why is there no 1920 or larger Vimeo thumbnail?

Vimeo will resize a thumbnail to a width larger than the frame it stores, which only enlarges the pixels. The tool measures the stored frame first and removes any resized copy wider than it, so the largest image you see is the largest real one.

Can I get the thumbnail of an unlisted Vimeo video?

Paste the full share link, including the hash that follows the video ID (vimeo.com/123456789/abcdef1234). The tool keeps that hash when it asks Vimeo’s oEmbed service. If Vimeo does not return metadata for the video, the tool reports the error instead of guessing.

What is the difference between the stored frame and the embed thumbnail?

The stored frame is the thumbnail at the size Vimeo keeps. The embed thumbnail is the specific image Vimeo’s oEmbed response points to for players, and it can be cropped or resized, so the two are labelled separately.

Does this download the Vimeo video itself?

No. The tool only reads thumbnail images. It never requests or saves the video stream.

Why does a private or password-protected video fail?

Vimeo does not publish thumbnail metadata for those videos to anonymous requests, and the tool does not work around privacy settings. Only public and correctly shared unlisted videos can be read.
