How the Loom Thumbnail Downloader works
1. Paste a Loom link
The address is checked against Loom's own domains before anything is requested.
2. Public metadata is read
Our server asks Loom's public metadata service which images exist, then loads and measures each one.
3. Download
Save the size you need, copy its URL, or download every size as a ZIP.
Supported input
- loom.com/share/<video id>
- loom.com/share/title-words-<video id>
- loom.com/embed/<video id>
Limitations
- Only videos shared publicly can be read. Videos restricted to a workspace or specific people are refused.
- Loom publishes one preview image per video.
How your data is handled. The link you enter is sent to A2Z.Tools so our server can read the platform's public metadata and check each image. We do not store the link, and our analytics record only the platform, how many images were found and any error code. Images are downloaded through a short-lived link that stops working after about 30 minutes.

What the Loom Thumbnail Downloader does
Loom recordings are often shared in documentation, tickets and onboarding pages, where a clean preview image makes the link easier to recognise. This tool reads the preview image Loom publishes for a public share link through Loom’s oEmbed service and shows its real dimensions and file size. It is built for product teams, support writers, educators and anyone who records their own walkthroughs and wants a still to place next to the link.
Supported Loom links
- loom.com/share/<video id>
- loom.com/share/title-words-<video id> – share links that start with words from the video title
- loom.com/embed/<video id>
A Loom video ID is a 32-character code at the end of the address. The tool extracts it even when title words come first, and normalises the link before asking Loom for metadata.
What you get
Loom publishes one Video preview image per recording. The tool loads it, identifies the format from the file’s bytes and measures it, so you know its exact width, height and weight before downloading. You can save the image or copy its resolved URL.
Because Loom offers a single preview, there is no size list to choose from. If you need a different frame, record owners can change the thumbnail inside Loom, or use a frame grabber on their own copy of the video.
Common uses
- Adding a preview image beside a Loom link in a help-centre article you maintain
- Illustrating a release note or internal wiki page with your own walkthrough
- Checking what image appears when your public Loom link is pasted into documentation tools
- Keeping stills of your course recordings for a lesson index
Limitations
- Only videos shared publicly can be read.
- Videos restricted to a workspace, a domain or specific people are refused — the tool does not sign in to Loom.
- Deleted recordings return an error.
Privacy
The link you enter is sent to A2Z.Tools so our server can ask Loom’s oEmbed service for the preview image and check it. We do not store the link, and our analytics record only the platform, how many images were found and any error code. Copyright
Recordings may show other people or confidential screens, so check before reusing a preview. Frequently asked questions
Why does my Loom link say the video is restricted?
Loom only publishes metadata for videos shared publicly. If the recording is limited to your workspace or to specific people, Loom refuses the request and the tool reports it as restricted.
Does the link need to be the short form without title words?
No. Share links that begin with words from the title are accepted; the tool reads the 32-character video ID at the end.
Can I choose a different size of Loom thumbnail?
Loom publishes a single preview image per video, so the tool shows that one image with its measured size.
Can I get a thumbnail from a Loom embed code?
Yes, if you paste the embed address (loom.com/embed/…). The tool converts it to the matching share link before asking Loom.
Does this download the Loom recording?
No. Only the preview image is requested. The video itself is never downloaded.
