How it works

Qatar's migrant workforce - drivers, builders, nurses, domestic and hotel staff - sends a large share of every wage home, and the price of each transfer hides in two places: the exchange house counter fee, and the spread between the riyal rate on its screen and the true market rate. Because the Qatari riyal is fixed at 3.64 per US dollar by the Qatar Central Bank, a QAR rate is really a dollar rate in disguise, so differences between providers come almost entirely from their spread. A2Z prices the market side from one shared server-cached rate table that every GCC remittance widget and the currency converter use, and the visitor's browser never contacts any rate service. Type the spread as a percentage, or copy the exact rate from a receipt or app, decide whether the charge is added to or deducted from the amount, and the widget shows what the family receives, the effective rate once the charge is included, and the total cost in riyals and as a percentage. Without the live table, entering a rate by hand still works.

Calculation method

  • Reference rate = destination per USD / 3.64-pegged QAR per USD from the shared table
  • Recipient gets = (amount - fee if inside) x provider rate
  • Cost = amount paid - recipient amount / reference rate

Worked examples

QAR to INR

Inputs: QAR 3,000; fee QAR 15 on top; reference 22.8022

Result: Recipient gets INR 68,406.59

A cost comparison, not a quote.

Limitations

  • Provider fees and rates are your inputs.
  • The reference can lag the market by a few hours.
  • Charges in the receiving country are not included.

Where publishers use it

  • A Nepali or Bangladeshi community site in Doha
  • An exchange house's transparent pricing page
  • A worker-welfare guide to sending wages home

Questions

How do I compare money-transfer costs from Qatar?

Add the fee to the margin hidden in the exchange rate. A 1% margin on QAR 3,000 costs about QAR 30 on top of any fee.

Where does the rate come from?

A2Z's shared exchange-rate table, refreshed from ExchangeRate-API and cached on A2Z's server - a mid-market reference, not a quote.

Which currencies are included?

INR, PKR, PHP, BDT, NPR, LKR and EGP presets, plus GCC currencies, USD, EUR and GBP.
