What this tool supports
LibriVox volunteers record books that are public domain in the United States and release the recordings into the public domain too. The files are hosted on the Internet Archive, and this tool fetches them from there.
What it will not do
- One chapter at a time - whole-book zip files are not handled.
- LibriVox judges public-domain status under United States copyright law.
- Copyright terms differ by country, so check the rules where you live before reusing a recording.
Questions
Are LibriVox recordings really free?
The recordings themselves are released into the public domain by the volunteers who make them, and the texts are public domain in the United States.
Is it public domain where I live?
Not necessarily. LibriVox applies United States copyright law. Much of Europe uses life of the author plus 70 years and India plus 60, so a book that is free in the US may still be in copyright elsewhere.
