What this tool supports

The Internet Archive hosts two very different things: material that is public domain or openly licensed and offered with a plain download link, and material that is in copyright and only lent out one borrower at a time. This tool reads the Archive's own metadata and will only fetch the first kind.

What it will not do

  • Lending-library books and anything marked access-restricted are refused.
  • Items withdrawn from public view (dark items) are refused.
  • The Archive hosts material under many different terms - check the item page before reusing a file.

Questions

Why was my archive.org link refused?

Almost always because the item is part of the lending library or is marked access-restricted. Those are in copyright and are lent rather than published, so there is no public download to fetch.

Can I download a whole collection at once?

No. This tool works on one item at a time, and picks the best audio file that item officially lists.

Is everything on the Internet Archive public domain?

No, and that is the common misunderstanding. The Archive is a library: it holds public-domain material, openly licensed material and in-copyright material side by side. Check the item page for its terms.
