What this tool supports
Everything on Commons is freely licensed, which is not the same as unrestricted. Most files are CC BY or CC BY-SA and ask you to credit the author. This tool reads the licence from Commons and shows it, with the credit line, alongside the download.
What it will not do
- A file whose licence cannot be read is refused rather than offered without one.
- Only audio files are handled - images and video are out of scope.
- Attribution is your responsibility once you have the file.
Questions
Do I have to credit the author?
For most Commons files, yes. The page shows the licence and a ready-made credit line. Only public-domain and CC0 files carry no attribution requirement.
Can I use these recordings commercially?
That depends on the specific licence, which is shown with each file. Most CC licences on Commons allow it; some ask you to share your own work alike.
