UAE VAT Registration Threshold Checker Widget
Answer the question every new UAE business asks: does my turnover oblige me to register for VAT, allow me to register voluntarily, or - if I am already registered - let me or require me to deregister? The checker applies the Federal Tax Authority thresholds to your own figures.

Adds a small script (what it does) that sizes the widget to fit its content, loads it lazily and keeps it isolated from your page's CSS.

How it works
Registration turns on two thresholds in Federal Decree-Law No. 8 of 2017. A business must register when its taxable supplies and imports over the previous 12 months exceed AED 375,000, or when they are expected to exceed it in the next 30 days. It may register voluntarily when supplies and imports, or its taxable expenses, exceed AED 187,500 - useful for start-ups that want to recover VAT on set-up costs. Both tests are 'exceeds', so a business at exactly AED 375,000 is not yet obliged. For a registered business the tests run the other way: if 12-month taxable supplies fall below the voluntary threshold it must apply to deregister; below the mandatory threshold it may apply; and a voluntary registrant must wait 12 months from registration before deregistering. The widget reads both thresholds from A2Z's rule file and states which test decided the answer.
What is checked
- Must register: supplies + imports (last 12 months) > AED 375,000, OR expected (next 30 days) > AED 375,000
- May register: supplies + imports, or taxable expenses, > AED 187,500
- Registered: last 12 months < AED 187,500 -> must apply to deregister; < AED 375,000 -> may apply
- Voluntary registrants cannot deregister within 12 months of registration
Worked examples
Must register
Inputs: Last 12 months AED 420,000
Result: Must register (above AED 375,000)
Voluntary
Inputs: Last 12 months AED 200,000
Result: May register voluntarily (above AED 187,500, below AED 375,000)
Exactly at the line
Inputs: Last 12 months AED 375,000; next 30 days AED 0
Result: Voluntary only - the mandatory test is 'exceeds'
A threshold check, not a registration decision. The Federal Tax Authority approves every registration and deregistration.
Limitations
- Takes the figures you enter; it does not decide which of your supplies are taxable, zero-rated or exempt.
- Tax-group registration, related-party aggregation and non-resident registration are not covered.
- Deadlines for applying (registration and deregistration) are set by the FTA and are not calculated here.

Questions
What is the VAT registration threshold in the UAE?
AED 375,000 of taxable supplies and imports over the last 12 months, or expected within the next 30 days, makes registration mandatory. Between AED 187,500 and AED 375,000 a business may register voluntarily.
Do taxable expenses count?
Only for voluntary registration: a business whose taxable expenses exceed AED 187,500 may register even before it has sales. Expenses never trigger mandatory registration.
When must a registered business deregister?
When it stops making taxable supplies, or when taxable supplies over 12 consecutive months are below the voluntary threshold of AED 187,500. Between the two thresholds deregistration is optional.
Can I deregister straight after registering voluntarily?
No. A voluntary registrant cannot deregister within 12 months of registration, under Article 23 of the VAT Decree-Law.
