How it works
Federal Decree-Law No. 47 of 2022 taxes a business's taxable income in two bands, set by Cabinet Decision No. 116 of 2022: the first AED 375,000 at 0% and everything above it at 9%. The widget therefore computes tax as 9% of (taxable income - 375,000), never less than zero. The Federal Tax Authority's own General Guide uses AED 6,000,000 as its first example and arrives at AED 506,250 - the widget reproduces that figure exactly. It also adds nine months to the end of the tax period you enter to give the deadline for filing the return and paying the tax, and when you add revenue at or below AED 3,000,000 it points out that Small Business Relief may remove the tax altogether. Taxable income is the figure after the Decree-Law's adjustments (exempt income, non-deductible expenses, interest limits, losses), not the accounting profit, so the widget asks for it directly.
Calculation method
- Tax = max(0, taxable income - AED 375,000) x 9%
- Effective rate = tax / taxable income x 100
- Return and payment due 9 months after the end of the tax period
- Revenue <= AED 3,000,000 flags possible Small Business Relief
Worked examples
FTA General Guide, Example 1
Inputs: Taxable income AED 6,000,000
Result: Corporate Tax AED 506,250 (effective 8.44%)
375,000 x 0% + 5,625,000 x 9% = 506,250.
Small profit
Inputs: Taxable income AED 800,000
Result: Corporate Tax AED 38,250
(800,000 - 375,000) x 9%; the same figure the FTA's Small Business Relief guide shows for this profit without the relief.
Inside the 0% band
Inputs: Taxable income AED 375,000
Result: Corporate Tax AED 0
The whole amount falls in the 0% band.
An estimate, not tax advice. Taxable income, reliefs and elections must be confirmed against the Decree-Law and FTA guidance or by a tax adviser.
Limitations
- Qualifying Free Zone Persons (0% on qualifying income) and the 15% Domestic Minimum Top-up Tax for large multinational groups are not modelled.
- Does not derive taxable income from accounting profit, apply tax losses or foreign tax credits, or handle tax groups.
- Small Business Relief is flagged, not decided - use the Small Business Relief checker for the full test.
- Transfer-pricing documentation, arm's-length adjustments and interest-deduction limits are outside its scope.
Where publishers use it
- An audit firm's Corporate Tax services page with the FTA's AED 6 million example pre-filled
- A business-setup provider comparing tax on AED 500,000 and AED 2 million of profit
- A CFO newsletter showing how the 0% band lowers the effective rate for small profits
- An Arabic accounting blog explaining the 9% rate with a working calculator
- A Dubai freelance consultancy estimating its first Corporate Tax return
- An Abu Dhabi trading LLC checking the AED 375,000 band
Questions
What is the Corporate Tax rate in the UAE?
0% on taxable income up to AED 375,000 and 9% on the amount above it, for tax periods starting on or after 1 June 2023. Qualifying Free Zone Persons and large multinational groups follow different rules.
How much tax is due on AED 6 million of taxable income?
