UAE Leave Salary Calculator Widget
Two different rules, kept apart: leave an employee takes during employment is paid at the full wage, allowances included, while unused leave paid out when employment ends is cash on the basic wage. Pick the mode and the widget applies the right base at a day rate of the monthly wage divided by 30.

Adds a small script (what it does) that sizes the widget to fit its content, loads it lazily and keeps it isolated from your page's CSS.

How it works
Article 29 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 gives at least 30 days' annual leave a year with full pay, and the worker is entitled to the wage for the leave period - the wage in the Decree-Law means basic pay plus allowances. When employment ends, Article 29(9) and Article 19(2) of Cabinet Resolution No. 1 of 2022 entitle the worker to a cash equivalent of the leave balance in accordance with the basic salary. Those are two calculations with two bases, and mixing them is the commonest mistake in leave-salary figures. The widget therefore asks which case you have: leave being taken (full monthly wage / 30 x days) or unused leave on termination (basic monthly wage / 30 x days). The 30-day month comes from Article 67. It applies to private-sector employment governed by Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021. It does not apply to employees of the DIFC or ADGM financial free zones (their own employment laws set end-of-service rules), domestic workers (a separate decree-law), federal and local government employees, or - for service after enrolment - workers their employer has enrolled in the approved alternative end-of-service savings scheme (Cabinet Resolution 96 of 2023). Ordinary free zones are covered.
Calculation method
- Leave taken during employment: full monthly wage (basic + allowances) / 30 x leave days (Art. 29(1), 29(6); Art. 67)
- Unused leave on termination: basic monthly wage / 30 x unused days (Art. 29(9); CR 1/2022 Art. 19(2); Art. 67)
- Entitlement: 30 days a year; 2 days a month when service is over 6 months and under a year (Art. 29(1))
Worked examples
Leave taken
Inputs: Full salary AED 15,000; 30 days of leave
Result: AED 15,000
15,000 / 30 x 30 - a month's full pay.
Unused leave on exit
Inputs: Basic AED 9,000; 10 unused days
Result: AED 3,000
9,000 / 30 x 10 on the basic wage.
An estimate under the Decree-Law, not legal advice.
Limitations
- Takes the leave days you enter; it does not track carried-forward balances or employer policies.
- Part-time contracts and sector-specific leave rules are not modelled.
- Private-sector employment under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 only.
- Sick leave, maternity and parental leave, and public holidays falling inside annual leave follow other articles and are not modelled.
Where publishers use it
- An HR policy page explaining leave salary paid in advance before a home trip
- A final-settlement checklist separating encashment from leave already taken
- An Arabic employee handbook
- A payroll bureau's FAQ on why leave pay and encashment differ
- A corporate travel desk showing staff the pay for a three-week summer holiday
Questions
Is leave salary paid on the basic or the full salary?
For leave taken during employment, on the full wage: the Decree-Law grants annual leave with full pay. For unused leave paid out when employment ends, on the basic wage, under Cabinet Resolution 1/2022 Article 19(2). The widget has a mode for each.
How is a day's leave pay worked out?
The monthly wage divided by 30, because Article 67 of the Decree-Law deems a month to be 30 days. Ten days of leave on a AED 15,000 full salary is AED 5,000; ten unused days on a AED 9,000 basic is AED 3,000.
How much annual leave does an employee earn?
At least 30 calendar days for each year of service, two days a month when service is more than six months but less than a year, and leave for the part of the final year worked.
Can unused leave always be cashed out?
On termination the balance due by law is paid in cash. During employment, carrying leave forward or encashing it depends on the rules in the Decree-Law, its Executive Regulation and the employer's policy, which the widget does not decide.
