Adds a small script (what it does) that sizes the widget to fit its content, loads it lazily and keeps it isolated from your page's CSS.
Works with
How it works
Article 109 grants at least twenty-one days of paid annual leave a year, rising to at least thirty once the worker has completed five continuous years with the same employer. The widget finds the current leave year from the last work anniversary, applies 21 or 30 days depending on whether five years were complete at that anniversary, and accrues it day by day - so a worker 182 days into a 365-day leave year has earned about half the year's days. Days carried over with the employer's consent (Article 110) are added and days already taken are subtracted. Leave cannot be cashed in while the job continues; when it ends, Article 111 pays the unused days, including a share for the part year, and A2Z values them at the actual monthly wage divided by thirty, the Article 2 month.
Calculation method
- Entitlement = 21 days a year; 30 from the leave year that starts after 5 completed years
- Earned this leave year = entitlement x days worked in it / days in the year
- Balance = earned + carried over - taken
- Cash value on leaving = actual monthly wage / 30 x balance
Worked examples
Six months into year six
Inputs: Start 1 Feb 2021; on 1 Aug 2026; nothing carried or taken
Result: 14.96 days earned
30 days x 182 / 365.
First year, leap year
Inputs: Start 1 Feb 2024; on 1 Aug 2024; 2 days carried, 3 taken
Result: 9.5 days
21 x 183 / 366 = 10.5; + 2 - 3.
An estimate from the dates entered, not a payroll record. The employer's records and the Labor Law decide the balance.
Limitations
- Counts in the Gregorian calendar; contracts that keep the Hijri calendar have slightly shorter leave years.
- Public holidays, Eid leave, sick leave and other special leave are separate and not included.
- More generous contractual leave is not modelled - enter extra days as carried over if needed.
Where publishers use it
- An HR portal where staff check their accrued leave before booking time off
- A small business owner working out a leaving employee's leave pay
- An expatriate guide to leave entitlement after five years in the Kingdom
- An Al Khobar hospital roster office tracking 30-day entitlements
- A Hail logistics firm planning Hajj and summer leave
Questions
How many days of annual leave do workers get in Saudi Arabia?
At least 21 days a year, increased to at least 30 days once the worker has spent five continuous years with the employer (Labor Law Article 109). Leave is paid in advance.
Can unused leave be paid out?
Not during employment - Article 109 forbids cash in lieu while the contract runs. When the worker leaves, Article 111 pays the unused days, including a share for the part year worked.
Can the employer postpone my leave?
Yes, by up to 90 days, or longer with the worker's written consent, but not beyond the end of the following leave year (Article 110).
Does Hajj leave count as annual leave in Saudi Arabia?
No. Article 113 gives a worker who has served two years paid leave of ten to fifteen days, including Eid al-Adha, to perform Hajj once during service, separate from the 21 or 30 days of annual leave.
