Saudi Overtime Pay Calculator Widget
Calculate overtime pay the way Article 107 of the Saudi Labor Law defines it - the full hourly wage plus half of the basic hourly wage for each extra hour - with the hourly divisor shown and editable, because the Law itself does not fix one.

Adds a small script (what it does) that sizes the widget to fit its content, loads it lazily and keeps it isolated from your page's CSS.

How it works
Hours beyond the legal limit - eight a day or forty-eight a week, depending on which standard the employer uses - are overtime, and so is every hour worked on a rest day, a public holiday or an Eid. Article 107, as re-enacted on 19 February 2025, pays each such hour at the worker's hourly wage plus fifty per cent of the hourly basic wage. That means two different hourly figures: the actual wage (with allowances) and the basic wage. The Law does not say how to turn a monthly wage into an hourly one. A2Z uses 240 hours by default - Article 2's thirty-day month times Article 98's eight-hour day - labels it as derived, and lets you replace it with the hours your contract sets. The Implementing Regulations cap overtime at 720 hours a year unless the worker agrees to more, and allow paid time off instead of pay, at no less than an hour and a half off for each overtime hour.
Calculation method
- Hourly wage = actual monthly wage / divisor; basic hourly = basic monthly / divisor
- Pay per overtime hour = hourly wage + 0.5 x basic hourly wage
- Overtime pay = pay per hour x hours, rounded to the halala
- Default divisor 240 (30 days x 8 hours) - derived, editable
Worked examples
Ten overtime hours
Inputs: Basic SAR 6,000; total SAR 8,000; 10 hours; divisor 240
Result: SAR 458.33
(8,000 / 240) + 0.5 x (6,000 / 240) = 45.833 an hour.
A calculation aid, not legal advice. The contract and the Labor Law decide the hourly basis.
Limitations
- The hourly divisor is not set by law; the default 240 is A2Z's derivation and a contract may use another figure.
- Does not decide which hours count as overtime under averaging arrangements or shift systems.
- Workers excluded from the hours rules (for example senior managers under Article 99) are not covered.
- Piece-rate, commission-only and daily-paid arrangements need the contract's own hourly equivalent, which the widget cannot infer.
Where publishers use it
- A construction or logistics firm's payroll guide for site supervisors
- A worker checking a payslip's overtime line against the Labor Law
- An HR blog explaining why Saudi overtime uses both the basic and the total wage
- A hospitality or retail employer costing extra shifts during Hajj, Umrah peaks and Eid trading
- A Yanbu petrochemical contractor costing turnaround overtime
- A Riyadh Season event crew pricing extra hours
Questions
How is overtime calculated in Saudi Arabia?
Each overtime hour is paid at the hourly wage plus 50% of the basic hourly wage (Labor Law Article 107). On a basic of SAR 6,000 and a total of SAR 8,000, with 240 hours a month, that is 33.33 + 12.50 = SAR 45.83 an hour.
Are working hours in Saudi Arabia 48 or 45 a week?
48. Article 98 sets 8 actual hours a day or 48 a week, and the 2025 amendments did not change it. A 45-hour figure appears in an unofficial English PDF that matches no enacted text.
Can I get time off instead of overtime pay?
Yes, if the worker agrees in writing: the Implementing Regulations require at least one and a half hours of paid leave for each overtime hour, taken within 60 days and capped at 30 days a year, with untaken time paid in cash on leaving.
Is there a limit on overtime hours?
720 hours a year, unless the worker consents to more (Implementing Regulations Article 22).
Is work on Eid or National Day paid as overtime?
Yes. Article 107 treats every hour worked on official holidays and Eid days as overtime, so a supervisor rostered for a full eight-hour shift on Founding Day earns eight overtime hours at the enhanced rate.
