Qatar Overtime Pay Calculator Widget
Price overtime the way Qatar's Labour Law sets it: the basic hourly wage plus 25%, plus 50% for hours between 9 pm and 3 am, and basic plus 150% for work on the weekly rest day - with the hourly divisor visible because the Law does not fix one.

Adds a small script (what it does) that sizes the widget to fit its content, loads it lazily and keeps it isolated from your page's CSS.

How it works
Article 74 lets an employer require overtime as long as actual hours stay within ten a day, and pays each extra hour at no less than the basic wage for normal hours plus 25%. Workers employed between nine in the evening and three in the morning receive the basic wage plus at least 50%, except shift workers. The English translation on Al Meezan says six in the morning, but the Arabic text, which prevails and has never been amended, says three. Work on the weekly rest day under Article 75 earns a substitute rest day and the basic wage plus at least 150%; the Arabic wording 'of his wage' could point to the total wage, so A2Z uses the basic and says so. Public holidays in Article 78 - Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, National Day and three days chosen by the employer - are paid under Article 74 as overtime. Converting a monthly basic salary to an hourly rate needs a divisor the Law does not give; 240 hours is shown as a derived default.
Calculation method
- Hourly basic = basic monthly wage / divisor (default 240, derived)
- Overtime hour = hourly basic x 1.25; 21:00-03:00 x 1.50; rest day x 2.50
- Total = sum over the hour types, rounded to the dirham
Worked examples
Ten overtime hours
Inputs: Basic QAR 6,000; divisor 240
Result: QAR 312.50
25 x 1.25 x 10.
Night and Friday
Inputs: 4 hours 9 pm-3 am and 8 Friday hours on QAR 6,000
Result: QAR 650.00
4 x 37.50 + 8 x 62.50.
A calculation aid, not legal advice. Contracts may pay more than the legal minimum.
Limitations
- The hourly divisor is not set by law; 240 is A2Z's derivation.
- Senior posts and categories excluded by Article 76 are not covered.
- The rest-day premium is computed on basic; a court could read it on total wage.
Where publishers use it
- A facilities or hospitality employer pricing night and Friday shifts
- A worker checking a payslip's overtime line
- An HR article correcting the 9 pm - 6 am translation
- A security or cleaning contractor costing World Cup-style event staffing at stadiums and malls
- A Hamad Port or Ras Laffan contractor reconciling timesheets for night loading crews
Questions
How is overtime calculated in Qatar?
At least the basic hourly wage plus 25% for each overtime hour; plus 50% for hours worked between 9 pm and 3 am, except for shift workers (Labour Law Article 74).
Is night work in Qatar 9 pm to 6 am or 9 pm to 3 am?
9 pm to 3 am. The Arabic Article 74, which prevails, says «الثالثة صباحاً»; the 6 am in the English translation is an error.
What do I get for working on Friday?
Another rest day plus the basic wage with an increase of at least 150% (Article 75), or the normal rest-day pay as agreed.
Are Eid and National Day hours paid at the Friday rate?
No. Article 78 sends holiday work to Article 74, so hours on Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, National Day (18 December) or the three employer-chosen days earn the overtime premium of 25%, or 50% between 9 pm and 3 am, not the 150% rest-day premium.
