Notice Period Calculator Widget
Help readers work out their last day at work. The embedded calculator takes the date notice is given and the notice length in days, weeks or months, counts calendar or working days, and explains what happens when a month-long notice starts on the 29th, 30th or 31st.

A plain iframe. Works everywhere, including site builders that strip scripts. Adjust height if your content needs more room.
<div data-a2z-widget="notice-period-calculator" data-height="520"></div> <script async src="https://a2z.tools/embed.js"></script>
Adds a small script (what it does) that sizes the widget to fit its content, loads it lazily and keeps it isolated from your page's CSS.

How it works
Counting starts the day after notice is handed in. In calendar mode, days and weeks are simply added - 30 days from 1 October 2026 ends on 31 October. Months keep the same day of the month, but when the target month is shorter the date is clamped to its last day: one month from 31 January 2026 ends on 28 February, and in the leap year 2028 on 29 February. Working-days mode counts Monday to Friday only, so 10 working days from Thursday 1 October 2026 run to Thursday 15 October; weeks count as 5 working days each. For a notice in months, the calendar date is found first and moved back to the Friday if it lands on a weekend. The result also reports the calendar days and the Monday-to-Friday days covered. Public holidays are not removed because they differ by country and region.
Calculation method
- Calendar: end = notice date + N days, or + 7N days for weeks
- Months: same day of month N months later, clamped to the month's last day
- Working days: step forward one day at a time, counting Monday to Friday only, until N are counted
- Working mode with months: calendar month end, moved back to Friday when it falls on Saturday or Sunday
Worked examples
Month-end clamping
Inputs: Notice on 2026-01-31; 1 month; calendar days
Result: Last working day Saturday, February 28, 2026; 28 calendar days; 20 working days
February 2026 has no 31st, so the last day of February is used.
Ten working days
Inputs: Notice on 2026-10-01 (a Thursday); 10 days; working days
Result: Last working day Thursday, October 15, 2026; 14 calendar days
Weekends of 3-4 and 10-11 October are skipped.
A month ending on a Sunday
Inputs: Notice on 2026-10-01; 1 month; working days
Result: Last working day Friday, October 30, 2026
1 November 2026 is a Sunday, so the date moves back to Friday.
Date arithmetic for planning, not legal advice - check your contract and local employment law.
Limitations
- No public holidays, no regional calendars and no non-Monday-to-Friday working weeks.
- Makes no claim about statutory notice in any country; it only counts the dates you give it.
Where publishers use it
- Career and resignation-advice blogs explaining how to calculate a leaving date
- HR policy pages with one-month or three-month contractual notice
- Recruitment agencies estimating when a placed candidate can start
- Tenancy-style guides where notice is given in calendar days
- Employee handbooks for companies whose notice is counted in working days
- Expat and relocation advisers timing a visa transfer or an international move
- Payroll teams scheduling a leaver's final pay run and P45 or termination paperwork
Questions
What is one month's notice from 31 January?
There is no 31 February, so the period ends on the last day of February: 28 February in 2026 and 29 February in a leap year such as 2028. The widget notes when this clamping happens.
Does the notice date itself count?
No. Day one is the day after notice is given, which is the usual way periods are counted. If your contract counts the notice day, subtract one day from the result.
How are working days counted?
Saturdays and Sundays are skipped. Two weeks of working-day notice is 10 working days; from Thursday 1 October 2026 that ends on Thursday 15 October.
Are public holidays excluded?
No, because they differ by country, state and employer. If a holiday falls inside a working-days notice, add one day per holiday.
Is this my legal notice period?
The widget does date arithmetic only. Statutory minimums, contract terms, garden leave and payment in lieu depend on your contract and local law, which it does not check.
What are garden leave and pay in lieu?
With garden leave the employee stays home on full pay until the notice expires; with pay in lieu of notice, employment ends at once and the notice is paid out. Either way the final day at the desk differs from the contractual end date this calculator returns.
Can unused holiday shorten the time in the office?
Often outstanding annual leave is taken during the notice, so the final day physically at work comes earlier while the employment end date stays put. Subtract those leave days from the working-days result to see that earlier day.
Is notice shorter during probation?
Probationary contracts frequently set a shorter period, such as a week, so enter that length while probation lasts; afterwards the longer contractual notice applies. Fixed-term and zero-hours arrangements can carry different terms again.
