Adds a small script (what it does) that sizes the widget to fit its content, loads it lazily and keeps it isolated from your page's CSS.

How it works
Bahrain introduced VAT at 5% on 1 January 2019 and raised it to 10% from 1 January 2022 under Law No. 33 of 2021, which also let contracts signed before the change keep 5% for up to a year. Adding VAT multiplies the net amount by 10%; removing it divides the inclusive amount by 1.10, so BHD 110 is BHD 100 plus BHD 10. Amounts are rounded to the fils, three decimals. The VAT Law zero-rates fifteen categories - basic food items on the official list, basic and preventive healthcare and medicines, education, local transport, construction of new buildings, oil and gas, investment metals and exports among them - so the supplier charges no VAT but recovers its input tax. Margin-based financial services and the sale or lease of land and buildings, residential and commercial, are exempt instead: no VAT and no recovery. The widget is the same GCC VAT engine as A2Z's UAE, Saudi and Oman calculators with Bahrain's rate.
Calculation method
- Adding: VAT = net x 10%
- Removing: net = total / 1.10
- Zero-rated and exempt: VAT = 0
- Rounded to the fils (BHD 0.001)
Worked examples
Adding VAT
Inputs: BHD 100.000 net
Result: VAT BHD 10.000; total BHD 110.000
Removing VAT
Inputs: BHD 110.000
Result: Net BHD 100.000
A calculation aid, not tax advice. The National Bureau for Revenue decides how a supply is treated.
Limitations
- Does not decide whether a supply is zero-rated or exempt.
- Transitional 5% contracts are not modelled.
- Rounding across invoice lines is not applied.
Where publishers use it
- A Bahrain shop's price list showing VAT-inclusive prices
- An accountant's NBR compliance article
- A contractor quoting new-build work at 0%
- A Manama Souq trader pricing goods inclusive of VAT
- A Seef district restaurant printing VAT-inclusive menus
