How it works
Article 58 gives a worker who has completed a year with the employer at least thirty days of paid annual leave, at two and a half days for each month, with leave in proportion for service under a year. Article 59 then requires at least fifteen days to be taken each year, six of them in a row, allows up to six days of casual leave counted against the balance, and obliges the employer to settle the balance and its pay at least every two years; whatever is left when the employment ends is paid in cash. The widget accrues the entitlement across the current leave year from the last anniversary, adds days carried over and subtracts days taken. The cash value uses the Article 47 wage - basic plus social allowance - divided by thirty, an assumption shown with the result because the Law gives no divisor.
Calculation method
- Entitlement = 30 days a year (2.5 a month)
- Earned this leave year = 30 x days worked / days in the year
- Cash = (basic + social) / 30 x balance
Worked examples
Half a leave year
Inputs: Start 1 Feb 2021; on 1 Aug 2026
Result: about 15 days earned this year
An estimate from the dates entered.
Limitations
- Public holidays and sick leave are separate.
- The cash divisor (30) is an assumption.
- Contracts may give more.

Questions
How much annual leave do workers get in Bahrain?
At least 30 days of paid leave a year, at 2.5 days per month (Labour Law Article 58), pro rata in the first year.
Must I take some leave every year?
Yes. At least 15 days a year must actually be taken, including 6 consecutive days (Article 59(a)).
What is casual leave in Bahrain?
Up to 6 days a year, at most 2 at a time, for emergencies; it is deducted from annual leave (Article 59(b)).
Can my employer refuse to pay leave I declined?
Yes, in one case: if the employer scheduled the leave and the worker refused it in writing, Article 59(d) lets the employer withhold payment for those days; otherwise the balance must be paid.
Does the Bahrain leave year follow the Hijri or Gregorian calendar?
Gregorian. Article 3 of the Labour Law counts all periods in Gregorian months and years, so leave accrues at 2.5 days for each Gregorian month worked.
