Formula
Selling price = cost × (1 + markup% / 100). Markup is relative to cost, while margin (shown for reference) is relative to the resulting selling price - the two are never numerically equal except at 0%.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my margin lower than my markup percentage?
Because markup divides by cost and margin divides by the (larger) selling price, margin is always a smaller number than markup for the same profit.
