How it works

Saudi car finance is usually a lease-to-own or murabaha contract with level monthly instalments and, often, a large final payment. The widget finds the instalment that, with the balloon paid at the end, repays the amount financed at the APR you enter: the balloon's present value is taken off the amount first, and the rest is spread over the term. A balloon lowers the monthly figure but raises the total term cost because more of the balance stays outstanding for longer. SAMA's Responsible Lending Principles treat vehicle finance as consumer finance, so the term may not exceed 60 months, and for the burden test unequal instalments are averaged: the balloon is spread across the months, which can push the counted obligation well above the advertised instalment. No SAMA cap on down payment or balloon was found, so neither is enforced. Upfront fees and insurance are added to the cash needed at signing, not to the rate.

Calculation method

  • Financed = price - down payment
  • Instalment = (financed - balloon / (1 + r)^n) x r / (1 - (1 + r)^-n), r = APR / 12
  • Counted obligation (RLP 13(e)) = (instalment x n + balloon) / n
  • Checks: term <= 60 months; salary deductions and burden limits

Worked examples

With a balloon

Inputs: Price SAR 112,000; down 12,000; balloon 30,000; APR 6%; 60 months

Result: About SAR 1,503 a month

Counted obligation about SAR 2,003 with the balloon averaged.

Without a balloon

Inputs: Same, no balloon

Result: About SAR 1,933 a month

An illustration at the rate you enter, not a finance offer. Lenders decide eligibility, rate, down payment and fees.

Limitations

  • Insurance, registration and maintenance packages are only included if entered as fees.
  • The separate lease and ownership values in a lease-to-own schedule are not split out.
  • Lender rates are not shown; enter the APR from the offer.

Where publishers use it

  • A car dealer's website showing instalments with and without a balloon
  • An auto-finance comparison blog explaining lease-to-own costs
  • A buyer checking whether a balloon deal fits SAMA's burden limits
  • A fleet manager comparing ownership costs of sedans, pickups and SUVs for field staff
  • A Riyadh buyer comparing a balloon lease with a plain murabaha
  • A Dammam fleet manager pricing pickup trucks

Questions

What is the maximum car finance term in Saudi Arabia?

60 months. Vehicle finance is consumer finance under SAMA's Responsible Lending Principles, which cap the term at five years.

How does a balloon payment affect my debt burden?

SAMA counts unequal instalments at their monthly average. A SAR 30,000 final payment over 60 months adds SAR 500 a month to the obligation used in the burden test, even though the instalment you pay is lower.

Is there a minimum down payment for car finance in Saudi Arabia?

No SAMA rule sets one; lenders set their own. The widget accepts any down payment from zero.

What happens to the balloon payment at the end of a lease-to-own contract?

It falls due with the last instalment. Most customers either pay it in cash, refinance it with a fresh agreement, or return the vehicle where the contract allows; refinancing restarts term cost on the outstanding residual.
