VCF Merge & Split workspace
Before you start
- Up to 50 files, 25 MB each, 20,000 contacts in total.
- Contacts are copied as they were written (saved as UTF-8); merging does not remove duplicates - use the Duplicate Cleaner for that.
- Split file names are made safe for Windows, macOS and Linux.
When would I merge or split vCard files?
- Merge: you exported contacts in several batches (for example several selections on iCloud.com) and want one .vcf to import or keep as a backup.
- Split: an app or person needs one contact per file, or you want to share only some contacts from a large export.
- Drop the files, untick any contacts you do not want, then download the merged .vcf or a ZIP of single-contact files.
Contacts are copied exactly as they were written in your files. Merging does not remove duplicates.

Combine or separate contact files
A .vcf file can hold one contact or thousands. Sometimes you have the opposite of what you need: several small exports that should be one file, or one large export when a person or app wants a single contact per file. This tool does both, and lets you choose exactly which contacts end up in the result.
Getting .vcf files from iCloud
- Sign in to iCloud.com on a computer and open Contacts.
- Select the contacts for one batch and choose Export vCard from the share or settings menu.
- Repeat for other batches, or export from the Contacts app on a Mac with File, Export, Export vCard.
Files from Google Contacts, Outlook and phone backup apps work too.
Merging files
- Drop up to 50 files together, or add more after the first ones load.
- A table shows each file with its contact count, how many are selected and any warnings.
- Download the merged file with a name of your choice. A summary lists how many contacts came from each file.
Every contact is copied from its original text, exactly as it was written. Nothing is re-encoded, so fields from other apps, photos and older quoted-printable text are kept intact. Because contacts are copied as written, duplicates are not removed.
Splitting a file
Choose Download ZIP to get one .vcf file per selected contact in a single ZIP archive. Each file is named after the contact's full name. Characters that are not allowed in file names on Windows, macOS or Linux are removed, hidden direction characters are stripped, and repeated names are numbered, for example Alex Example (2).vcf. Contacts without a name are saved as contact-0001.vcf and so on.
Choosing contacts
- Search by name, phone, email or company to narrow the list.
- Select all, select none, or select or clear only the contacts that match the filter.
- Every contact has its own checkbox, usable by keyboard and screen reader.
vCard version notes
Files in vCard 2.1, 3.0 and 4.0 can be combined. Because cards are copied without conversion, a merged file can contain a mix of versions, which most contacts apps, including iCloud, accept. If you need a single version, open the result in another tool in this category that rewrites cards.
Limitations
- 50 files, 25 MB per file and 20,000 contacts in total per run.
- Large ZIP files are built in browser memory, so very large selections take longer on older phones.
- Merging copies contacts as they are, so the same person exported twice appears twice; clean the merged file afterwards if needed.
- Group cards are copied like any other contact, but a split file of a group does not include its members.
Privacy
Files are read and the merged file or ZIP is built in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to A2Z Tools.

Frequently asked questions
How do I combine several VCF files into one?
Drop all the .vcf files on the page, leave the contacts you want ticked and choose Download merged .vcf. The file contains the selected contacts in the order shown.
Does merging remove duplicate contacts?
No. Contacts are copied exactly as written. To find and merge duplicates, run the merged file through the iCloud Contacts Duplicate Cleaner.
How are the split files named?
Each file uses the contact's full name, with unsafe characters removed. Repeated names get a number such as (2), and contacts without a name are saved as contact-0001.vcf and upwards.
Can I export only some contacts from a large VCF?
Yes. Use the search box and the Select filtered or Clear filtered buttons, or tick contacts individually, then download a merged file or a ZIP of just those contacts.
Will photos and custom fields be kept?
Yes. Each contact is written from its original text, so photos, custom fields and labels are preserved exactly.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Reading, merging, splitting and building the ZIP happen locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to A2Z Tools.
