How to get your photos out of iCloud Photos

You download the photos yourself; this page never signs in to or reads your account. On a computer, sign in to iCloud.com in your browser, open Photos, select the photos you want and use the download button. The browser saves them to your Downloads folder, as single files or as a ZIP when you pick many. On an iPhone or iPad you can also open the Photos app, select pictures and save them to the Files app, or connect the phone to a computer and import them.

Why the files are often HEIC

Recent iPhones save photos in the High Efficiency format by default, chosen under Settings, then Camera, then Formats. High Efficiency stores stills as HEIC, which is roughly half the size of a JPEG of similar quality. Whether files arrive as HEIC or JPG when copied to a computer depends on the Photos setting called Transfer to Mac or PC: Automatic converts to a compatible format, while Keep Originals copies the HEIC files as they are. Photos downloaded from iCloud.com with the unmodified originals option are usually HEIC too.

What this converter does

The converter reads each HEIC or HEIF file on your device, decodes its primary image and writes a new JPG or PNG. HEIC decoding runs in a background worker using an open-source decoder, so the page stays responsive while a large batch is processed. Each file shows its own status, and a file that cannot be read gets a clear message without stopping the others.

• Choose PNG for lossless output and to keep transparent areas.
• Download files one at a time or all together as a ZIP.
• JPG, PNG and WebP files can also be added to re-save them without metadata.

Orientation and metadata, honestly

iPhones often store a photo sideways and record how it should be turned. The converter applies that rotation to the pixels, so the result is upright everywhere, even in apps that ignore orientation tags. Because the new file is written from pixels, it does not carry the original EXIF block: the capture date, camera model and GPS location are not included. That makes the output safer to share, but if you need the capture date kept, keep your original HEIC files as well.

JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. PNG keeps them.

Limits

• Up to 500 files per batch, 60 MB and 100 megapixels each.
• Only the primary image of a sequence, burst or depth photo is converted.
• AV1-based HEIF files and damaged or incomplete photos cannot be decoded; each is reported on its own.

Privacy

Your files are processed locally in your browser and are not uploaded to A2Z Tools. There is no sign-in and no request to your iCloud account; the tool only works on files you choose.
