How it works
Telegram's public links take the form https://t.me/ followed by a username, and the same link works for a person, a support bot or a channel. This button builds that link for contacting you privately; to grow a channel audience use the Telegram Channel Button instead. You can paste the username with or without @, or the whole t.me or telegram.me address - the widget keeps only the username and checks it against Telegram's username rule: 5 to 32 characters, letters A-Z, digits and underscores. Anything else (spaces, dashes, a query string, a four-letter name) draws no button on your page rather than a link that would fail. Because a username link reveals no phone number, it is a good fit for freelancers, communities and support desks that do not want to publish one. The button is drawn in Telegram blue with the readable text colour chosen by contrast, or in your own style.

A name that is too short

Telegram usernames have at least five characters.
Limitations
- Needs a public Telegram username; private links and phone numbers are not supported.
- No prefilled message.
- Visitors without Telegram are taken to a t.me page offering to install it or open Telegram Web.
Where publishers use it
- A software developer offering support through a Telegram bot such as @acme_support_bot
- A crypto or gaming community site whose members already live on Telegram
- A freelancer who wants to be reachable without publishing a phone number
- An event organiser answering last-minute questions on Telegram on the day
Questions
Will visitors see my phone number?
No. A t.me username link opens a chat without revealing your number. Check Telegram's privacy settings for what people can see once they have messaged you.
I don't have a username - can I use my number?
Not with this button. Set a public username in Telegram's settings first (5-32 letters, digits or underscores); it is what makes a t.me link possible.
Can it prefill a message like WhatsApp?
Not in this version. The button keeps to the plain t.me/username link, which every Telegram app, Telegram Web and the t.me landing page handle the same way; the visitor types their own first message.
Does it work for bots and channels?
Yes - a bot or channel username works the same way. For a channel the visitor sees the channel and a Join button; for a bot they see Start.
What if I rename my Telegram account?
The old t.me address stops leading to you as soon as the username changes, and once released the name could eventually be claimed by a stranger. Update the button's username on the same day you rename, and avoid publishing temporary or throwaway handles.
