RSS Subscribe Button Widget

Let readers follow your blog or podcast without an algorithm in the way: an orange Subscribe via RSS button that links to your feed, plus a Copy feed address button so people can paste it into Feedly, Inoreader, NetNewsWire, a podcast app or any other reader they already use.

Embed code

Fill in the required fields above - until then this code shows nothing on your site.

<div data-a2z-kit="rss-subscribe-button"></div>
<script async src="https://a2z.tools/embed/kit.js" referrerpolicy="no-referrer"></script>

One small script from A2Z draws the component on your page inside its own Shadow DOM. It loads no social-network or tracking scripts and sets no cookies. How the A2Z kit works.

Works with

How it works

Paste the https address of your feed - WordPress serves one at /feed/, Ghost at /rss/, Substack at /feed, Blogger at /feeds/posts/default and most podcast hosts give an RSS link in their settings. Only https feeds are accepted (feed:// and plain http are refused), the #fragment is dropped and the query string kept, because some feeds are selected by it (?format=rss). The main button opens the feed itself: modern browsers show the raw XML or offer a reader, which is why the Copy feed address button sits beside it - one click copies the exact address and a short message, announced to screen readers, confirms it. A one-click Follow in Feedly link is not added, because Feedly does not currently document a public subscribe URL for third-party buttons.

Method

  • Accepted: any https:// URL (http, feed:, data:, javascript: refused); #fragment removed, query kept
  • Copy: navigator.clipboard.writeText(feed URL), falling back to a hidden textarea + execCommand('copy')
  • No detection of the feed format: RSS 2.0, Atom and JSON Feed addresses all work as links

Worked examples

A Squarespace blog feed

Inputs: https://riverside-cafe.example/blog?format=rss#top

Result: https://riverside-cafe.example/blog?format=rss

The fragment is removed; the format parameter is kept because it selects the feed.

An http feed

Inputs: http://riverside-cafe.example/feed.xml

Result: Refused: use the https address of your feed

Mixed-security links are not offered.

Limitations

  • Only https feed addresses are accepted.
  • The button does not check that the address really serves a feed; test it once in a feed reader.
  • No subscriber counts and no reader-specific subscribe links.

Where publishers use it

  • A personal blog offering RSS next to the email newsletter sign-up for readers who avoid inboxes
  • A podcast site giving the raw RSS feed for apps that are not in the big directories
  • A company changelog or status page that engineers follow in a feed reader
  • A newsletter on Buttondown, Ghost or Substack offering its web archive feed to readers who prefer Miniflux, Feedbin or Thunderbird

Questions

Why does clicking the button show code in some browsers?

Browsers no longer have built-in feed readers, so opening a feed shows its XML or a plain list. That is why the Copy feed address button is next to it: readers paste the address into their feed reader or podcast app, which is how RSS is meant to be used.

Where is my feed address?

WordPress: yoursite.com/feed/. Ghost: /rss/. Substack: yourname.substack.com/feed. Blogger: /feeds/posts/default. Squarespace blogs: the blog page address plus ?format=rss. Podcast hosts list it as the RSS feed in your show settings.

Why no Follow in Feedly button?

Feedly does not document a public subscribe-link format for other sites, and an undocumented link could break silently. The copy button works with Feedly and every other reader.

Can it show how many subscribers my feed has?

No. RSS readers fetch feeds anonymously and there is no reliable subscriber count to show.
