What the Travel Packing List Builder does
This builder turns the length of a trip, the climate, your activities, the number of travellers and your luggage into a packing checklist with quantities - how many shirts, how many pairs of socks - that scale with the number of nights and stop growing once you plan to do laundry. Tick items off as they go in the bag, then copy, download or print the list.
The list comes from a fixed, visible rule table: each item appears for a stated reason, and the quantity rule is written next to it. There is no AI and nothing is invented about your destination.
How to use it
- Enter the number of nights, the climate and who is travelling.
- Choose checked luggage or carry-on only. Carry-on only caps clothing at about a week's worth, because that is what fits.
- If you can wash clothes on the way, enter how often. Clothing quantities then stop at one laundry cycle plus a spare.
- Tick your activities - beach, hiking, business, a formal event, skiing - and add any personal items of your own.
- Build the list, tick items as you pack, and copy it as text, download it as CSV or print it.
Reading the results
Daily items (underwear, socks, tops) are one per day of the trip, where days = nights + 1, plus one spare. With a laundry cycle of N days they are capped at N + 1.
Bottoms are about one per three days with a minimum of two; warm layers are capped at three whatever the trip length, because you rewear them.
The reason in brackets tells you which rule added an item. If a rule does not fit your trip, untick it or just skip it - the list is a starting point, not a verdict.
Worked example: a beach week for two
Seven nights in a hot climate, two adults, checked bags, no laundry, beach ticked. Days = 7 + 1 = 8, so underwear and socks are 8 + 1 = 9 each - 18 of each for the pair. Tops are one per day, 8 each; bottoms are ceil(8 / 3) = 3 each.
The hot-climate rules add shorts, a sun hat and insect repellent; beach adds swimwear (two, so one can dry), sandals, a beach towel, sunglasses and sunscreen. International adds visa documents, some local cash and a plug adapter.
Set laundry to every 4 days and the daily items drop to 5 each: one cycle of 4 plus a spare.
Limitations: what the result does not prove
- It knows nothing about your destination's entry rules, plug type, dress codes or what is sold locally. Check the official sources for visas, vaccinations and customs limits.
- Airline liquid, battery and baggage rules still apply to whatever you pack; see the baggage allowance planner for sizes and weights.
- Quantities are rules of thumb. Children, medical needs and personal habits vary - adjust freely.
- Ticks are kept only on this page while it is open; nothing is saved or sent anywhere.

Frequently asked questions
How many outfits should I pack for a week?
For seven nights (eight days) without laundry, the rule here gives eight tops, three bottoms and nine sets of underwear and socks. If you can wash once mid-week, a four-day cycle brings the daily items down to five, which is how people fit a week or more into a carry-on.
Can I travel with carry-on luggage only for two weeks?
Yes, if you plan laundry. Choose carry-on only and set a laundry cycle: clothing is capped at about a week's worth, and the list reminds you to pack a travel wash. Check the airline's cabin size and weight limits before you go.
Is this packing list generated by AI?
No. Every item comes from a short rule table - for example, swimwear appears when you tick beach - and the reason is shown beside it. That keeps the list predictable and easy to check, and means nothing about your trip is sent to a model or a server.
Why should medicines go in my hand luggage?
Checked bags are sometimes delayed or lost, and you may not be able to buy the same prescription abroad. Keeping medicines in their original packaging in your hand luggage, with a couple of extra days' supply, avoids both problems and makes security questions easier.
What should I pack for a trip with children?
Tick the number of children and the list adds snacks and small toys for the journey, a children's first-aid kit and a spare change of clothes in hand luggage. Clothing quantities are shown per person, with a total for everyone.
