Nofollow/dofollow link generator

Four rel values, not two

"Dofollow or nofollow" used to be the whole question. It no longer is. Google has recognised three distinct reasons to withhold link equity since 2019, and treating them all as one generic nofollow throws away information a search engine now reads separately.

• Dofollow — the default. No rel attribute at all; the link passes ranking signal normally.
• Nofollow — a general instruction not to pass endorsement, for links you cannot vouch for.
• Sponsored — specifically for paid or compensated placements, including affiliate links. Advertising rules in several jurisdictions expect this to be disclosed, and this is the mechanical half of that.
• UGC — user-generated content: comments, forum posts, reviews. Marks a link as written by a visitor rather than endorsed by the page owner.

rel values can be combined - a sponsored comment link is legitimately rel="ugc sponsored" - and the generator supports that.

The attributes people forget

Opening a link in a new tab with target="_blank" and no rel="noopener" lets the new page run JavaScript that can reach back and change what is showing in the tab it came from - a real and still common vulnerability, not a theoretical one. Add noreferrer as well to also withhold the referring URL from the destination. Both are offered as checkboxes here rather than something to remember by hand.
