What EchoMinute records
EchoMinute records audio from your phone's microphone only after you tap Start recording, and only until you pause or stop. A notification is shown for the whole time the microphone is in use. EchoMinute never records in secret, never starts recording by itself (including after a restart) and does not record phone calls.
What leaves your phone
Nothing by itself. EchoMinute has no internet permission, no account, no servers, no ads, no analytics and no crash reporting. Its data is excluded from Android cloud backup and from device-to-device transfer.
When you choose Share audio, EchoMinute makes a temporary copy of that one recording and hands it to the app you pick. The temporary copy is deleted the next time you share or open EchoMinute.
How long recordings are kept
By default, recordings that are not protected are deleted 7 days after they end. You can choose 24 hours, 3 days, 7 days, 30 days, or keep them until you delete them. Recordings you protect, and recordings with bookmarks while Protect bookmarked recordings is on, are never deleted automatically. If the storage budget you set is reached, the oldest unprotected recordings are removed first.
Security
Other apps cannot read EchoMinute's storage. EchoMinute does not add its own encryption: files are protected by Android's app sandbox and your phone's device encryption. The optional app lock hides the app behind your fingerprint, face or screen lock.
While a recording plays, Android shows its title in the media controls, including on the lock screen. The recording notification shows only the status and time.
Deleting your data
You can delete any recording at any time; its audio, notes and bookmarks are removed. Uninstalling EchoMinute deletes all of its data. As with any app, flash storage may keep fragments of deleted files until the space is reused.
Recording other people
You are responsible for using EchoMinute lawfully. In many places you must tell people, or get their permission, before recording them.
Permissions
- Microphone: To record when you start a recording.
- Notifications: To show recording and playback status with Pause, Bookmark and Stop.
- Foreground service (microphone, media playback): So recording and playback continue while the screen is locked.
- Wake lock: Used only by the player while audio is playing.
- Biometric: For the optional app lock. Android performs the check; EchoMinute never receives fingerprint, face or PIN data.
Android asks before an app can use the camera, microphone or notifications, and you can change these permissions at any time in your phone's Settings.
Children
EchoMinute - Voice Recorder is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If the app's handling of data changes, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date before the change takes effect.
