Trust Badge Builder Widget
Show the promises a small business stands behind - family owned since 1998, free written estimates, licensed and insured - as tidy cards, pills or a quiet strip. Every badge is visibly marked as the business's own statement, because A2Z does not check these claims.

A plain iframe. Works everywhere, including site builders that strip scripts. Adjust height if your content needs more room.
<div data-a2z-widget="trust-badge-builder" data-height="470"></div> <script async src="https://a2z.tools/embed.js"></script>
Adds a small script (what it does) that sizes the widget to fit its content, loads it lazily and keeps it isolated from your page's CSS.
Works with
How it works
Each line is one badge: a short label, an icon keyword and an optional detail such as Since 1998 or Lic. #12345. Fifteen plain line icons are available (check, shield, home, star, clock, heart, leaf, truck, wrench, money, phone, chat, calendar, document, users); an unknown keyword falls back to a simple check. Three styles share the same content: card (a grid of tiles that also carry the words Self-declared), pill (rounded chips for a hero section) and strip (one quiet line between two rules for a footer). Whatever the style, every badge ends with a visible asterisk, its accessible name ends with "self-declared by the business, not verified", and a footnote that cannot be switched off names the business and states that A2Z Tools has not verified the statements. No seal, rosette, ribbon or third-party logo is drawn, so nothing can be mistaken for a certification mark. For proof A2Z can stand behind, use the verified technical badges, such as the SSL certificate badge, which run a live check of your domain.
Method
- Line format: label | icon | optional detail (up to 12 badges; labels up to 60 characters)
- Every badge = icon + label + visible * mark + screen-reader text "(self-declared by the business, not verified)"
- Footnote, always rendered: "* Self-declared by <business>. These are the business's own statements; A2Z Tools has not verified them."
- Styles: card (adds a Self-declared caption to each tile), pill, strip
Worked examples
Plumbing firm, card style
Inputs: Family owned | home | Since 1998; Free written estimates | document; Licensed and insured | shield | Lic. #12345; business Riverside Plumbing & Heating
Result: Three tiles, each with an asterisk and a Self-declared caption, and the footnote "* Self-declared by Riverside Plumbing & Heating..."
The licence number is displayed, not checked.
Footer strip
Inputs: Locally sourced | leaf; Baked fresh daily | clock; style strip
Result: One centred line of two badges with asterisks and the footnote
The strip omits the card caption but keeps the mark, the accessible wording and the footnote.
Limitations
- A2Z does not verify any statement shown; the badges are only as true as the business that writes them.
- No images, logos or links inside badges - text and the 15 built-in icons only.
- The self-declared marking and footnote cannot be hidden or reworded.
Where publishers use it
- A roofer's or plumber's home page: family owned, free estimates, licensed and insured, 24-hour call-outs
- A bakery or farm shop footer: locally sourced, baked fresh daily, family run since 1987
- A cleaning company's booking page: same cleaner every visit, eco products, satisfaction guarantee
- A tutor's or coach's profile: 12 years' experience, first lesson free, flexible evening slots
- A small online store's checkout reassurance strip: easy returns within 30 days, ships in 2 working days
Questions
Does A2Z verify these badges?
No - and the widget says so on every badge. Family owned, licensed or 5-star service are the business's own statements; A2Z has no way to confirm a licence number or a founding year. That is why each badge carries an asterisk, the card style prints Self-declared on every tile, screen readers hear self-declared by the business, not verified, and a footnote names the business as the source.
How is this different from A2Z's SSL, HTTPS and security-header badges?
Those are verified technical badges: when a visitor loads one, A2Z's server actually connects to the domain and checks the certificate, the HTTPS redirect, HSTS or the security headers, and the badge shows the live result, including failures. The Trust Badge Builder checks nothing; it only presents claims the business writes. Use the SSL certificate badge or the security headers badge when you want a badge that proves something.
Can I add a licence number or registration?
Yes, in the detail cell: Licensed and insured | shield | Lic. #12345. The number is shown as you typed it. Visitors who want to confirm it should check the licensing body's own register; the badge does not link to or query any register.
Can I remove the self-declared marking or the footnote?
No. The asterisk, the screen-reader wording and the footnote are part of every style and have no off switch. Presenting unverified claims as if a third party had checked them can mislead customers and, in many countries, breaches consumer-protection rules on misleading commercial practices, so the component keeps the source of each claim visible.
Why are there no award seals or certification logos?
A drawn seal or a copied logo of a trade body, review site or payment provider looks like third-party endorsement and could be a trademark problem. The component deliberately uses plain line icons and rounded shapes that read as the business speaking for itself. If you hold a real accreditation, link to the scheme's own verification page from your site.
Which style should I pick?
Card for a dedicated Why choose us section (two columns at 480 pixels, one on phones); pill for a row of four or five short claims under a headline; strip for a single quiet line above a footer or under a booking form. All three keep the same marking and footnote.
