Reading "self-signed"
A self-signed certificate is one whose issuer is itself, rather than a separate CA - meaning no outside authority has vouched for it. Browsers do not trust these by default; they are normal for internal tools and local development, and a red flag on a public-facing site.
Why the intermediate matters here too
The immediately-issuing entity is often an intermediate CA, not the root - large CAs like Google Trust Services, DigiCert, Sectigo and Let's Encrypt (ISRG) mostly sign through intermediates rather than their root keys directly, so both are shown.
