What the Anniversary Calculator does
This anniversary calculator tells you how long it has been since a date that matters - the day you married, met, moved in or started a job - in years, months and days, and as totals in days, weeks and months. It then lists the milestones coming up, from the next anniversary to round numbers such as 1,000 or 2,500 days, with the weekday each one falls on and, for weddings, the traditional gift for that year.
You can save the milestones straight into your calendar as an .ics file or download them as a spreadsheet. The arithmetic runs in your browser, and the start date and label you type never leave the page.
How to use it
- Pick the start date - the wedding day, the day you got together, or your first day at work.
- Choose what you are counting. A wedding anniversary adds the traditional gift theme to each year; the other choices only change the wording.
- Add a label if you want one, such as both of your names or the employer. It appears in the copied text and the calendar entries.
- Read the time together at the top, then the next anniversary and the next round-number milestone underneath.
- Use "Add to calendar" to import every upcoming milestone into Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar, or open "Count to a different date" to plan further ahead.
Reading the results
The headline is counted the way you would count it on a calendar: whole years, then whole months, then the days left over. The day count is exact and includes every 29 February in between.
Round-number milestones (100 days, 1,000 days, 100 weeks, 100 months and so on) are counted in exact days, weeks or calendar months from the start date, so they fall on different weekdays and do not line up with the yearly anniversary.
Gift themes are custom rather than rule. The table shows the traditional theme commonly printed in the United States, with the British variant where it differs, and the data file says where the list comes from and when it was checked.
Worked example: married on 14 February 2020, counted on 20 October 2026
14 February 2020 to 14 February 2026 is 6 whole years. To 14 October 2026 is 8 more months, and 14 to 20 October is 6 days: 6 years, 8 months and 6 days.
In days, six years containing two 29 Februaries (2020 and 2024) is 6 x 365 + 2 = 2,192 days. The rest of February 2026 is 14 days, March to September is 214 days, and then 20 days of October: 2,192 + 14 + 214 + 20 = 2,440 days, or 348 weeks and 4 days.
The next round number is 2,500 days, 60 days later: 11 days to the end of October, 30 in November and 19 in December, so Saturday 19 December 2026. The 7th anniversary follows on Sunday 14 February 2027, traditionally wool or copper.
Formulas and scoring rules
- Time together
whole months m = largest m with add_months(start, m) <= today; years = floor(m / 12); months = m mod 12; days = today - add_months(start, m)add_months clamps to the end of shorter months, so an anniversary of 29 February falls on 28 February in common years.- Totals
days = today - start; weeks = floor(days / 7) remainder days mod 7- Day and week milestones
milestone = start + N days, or start + 7 x N days- Month and year milestones
milestone = add_months(start, N), or add_months(start, 12 x N)- Years as a decimal
years = days / 365.2425The mean Gregorian year. Shown to two decimal places.
Traditional anniversary gifts
The best-known themes are the milestone ones: silver for the 25th, pearl for the 30th, ruby for the 40th, gold for the 50th and diamond for the 60th. The early years run through paper, cotton, leather, fruit and flowers (or linen in Britain), wood, iron (sugar in Britain), wool and copper, bronze, pottery and tin. Publishers and retailers have produced "modern" lists too, which vary from source to source, so this page shows only the traditional themes from one named, dated source.
If a year has no traditional theme in the list - years 16 to 19, for example - the gift column is simply empty rather than filled with an invented one.
Counting relationship and work anniversaries
Couples often celebrate the 100th or 1,000th day together, especially early in a relationship, and some workplaces mark service in months during probation and in years afterwards. Choosing "relationship" or "work" changes the wording and removes the wedding gift column; the dates are counted exactly the same way.
Limitations: what the result does not prove
- It counts calendar days and does not know what time of day something happened, so the count changes at midnight in your browser's time zone.
- Gift themes are tradition, not etiquette rules, and lists genuinely differ between countries and publishers. Use them as ideas.
- Employers may count service differently - from a contract start date, excluding unpaid leave, or by completed years only. For pay, notice or benefits, the employer's or the law's definition wins.
- Milestones are listed for the period you choose (10 years by default), and the calendar file carries at most 60 of them.

Frequently asked questions
How long have we been together in days?
Enter the date you got together and read the Days figure. It counts every calendar day from that date to today, including leap days, so 14 February 2020 to 20 October 2026 is exactly 2,440 days.
When is our 1,000th day together?
It is the start date plus 1,000 days, which is about 2 years and 9 months later. The calculator lists it with its weekday along with 100, 500, 2,000, 2,500 and other round numbers while they are still in the future.
What is the traditional gift for each wedding anniversary year?
The common traditional list runs paper, cotton, leather, fruit and flowers, wood, iron, wool or copper, bronze, pottery and tin for years one to ten, then silver at 25, pearl at 30, ruby at 40, gold at 50 and diamond at 60. Choose Wedding to see the theme next to each upcoming year.
What anniversary is it after 25 years of marriage?
The 25th is the silver wedding anniversary. Other named milestones are the 30th (pearl), 35th (coral), 40th (ruby), 45th (sapphire), 50th (gold), 55th (emerald), 60th (diamond) and 70th (platinum).
How do I add our anniversary milestones to my phone calendar?
Press "Add to calendar (.ics)". The file contains each upcoming milestone as an all-day event; open it on your phone or import it into Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar. It is generated in your browser.
How is a 29 February wedding anniversary counted?
In years without 29 February the anniversary is counted on 28 February, the usual calendar convention. Day-based milestones such as 1,000 days are not affected because they count days directly.
Can I count a work anniversary or years of service with this?
Yes. Choose Work anniversary and enter your start date to see years, months and days of service and your upcoming service anniversaries. Your employer's records decide official service for pay or benefits.
