What is checked
Every <link rel="icon">-family tag (icon, shortcut icon, apple-touch-icon, apple-touch-icon-precomposed, mask-icon), whether a web app manifest with its own icons is linked, the root /favicon.ico fallback, duplicate declarations, and the common declared sizes (16x16, 32x32, 180x180).
Safe previews
Icon previews are rendered as plain <img> elements pointing at the discovered URL - an SVG icon is never injected into the page as live markup, only ever loaded as an image.
