Website Status Badge
Show whether a site is up with a badge that A2Z re-checks at most every five minutes: "online" when it answers normally, the HTTP status code when it answers with an error, and "not responding" when nothing comes back.

Embed code
The badge is re-checked automatically (every few hours; every 5 minutes for website status) and cached, so it adds almost nothing to your page load. The link carries rel="nofollow".
Works with
How it works
A2Z requests your home page over HTTPS, falling back to HTTP, follows redirects and records the final status code and the response time. The result is cached for five minutes, so a badge on a busy page causes at most twelve checks an hour. It is a single request from one location, so the wording states what was observed at that moment rather than claiming worldwide availability or uptime history.
What is checked
- Online: the final response status is below 400 (RFC 9110 status classes)
- Amber for 4xx client errors (often a firewall blocking automated requests), red for 5xx or no response
- Re-checked when the cached result is more than five minutes old
Worked examples
Normal site
Inputs: Home page answers 200 in 180 ms
Result: Green: "online"
The response time is shown in the report, not on the badge.
Bot filter
Inputs: Firewall answers automated requests with 403
Result: Amber: "HTTP 403"
The site may still work for people; the badge reports exactly what it received.
Limitations
- One location, one request: a regional outage elsewhere will not show.
- Not an uptime monitor - there is no history and no alerting; use the A2Z Website Monitor for that.
- Sites that block automated clients may show an HTTP 403 even when they work in a browser.
Where publishers use it
- Status pages and README files for self-hosted services
- Agencies listing client sites on a dashboard
- Community sites showing a mirror is up
Questions
Will the badge slow my page down?
No. It is a small cached SVG image; browsers load it like any picture, and A2Z serves the cached result without contacting your site again for up to five minutes.
Is this an uptime monitor?
No. It is a snapshot re-checked at most every five minutes when the badge is viewed. For alerts and history use the A2Z Website Monitor.
Why does it say HTTP 403 when my site works?
Some firewalls and bot filters block automated requests. The badge reports the status A2Z actually received rather than guessing.
Where is the check made from?
From A2Z's server. A site can be reachable from one country and not another, which a single-location check cannot show.
