A plain iframe. Works everywhere, including site builders that strip scripts. Adjust height if your content needs more room.
<div data-a2z-widget="fd-calculator" data-height="620"></div> <script async src="https://a2z.tools/embed.js"></script>
Adds a small script (what it does) that sizes the widget to fit its content, loads it lazily and keeps it isolated from your page's CSS.

How it works
Cumulative (reinvestment) deposits use the same compound-interest engine as the A2Z Fixed Deposit Calculator. The widget compounds quarterly by default and lets the reader switch to monthly, half-yearly or yearly to match the terms printed on their deposit receipt. Payout deposits pay the interest out instead of adding it, so they do not compound: each quarterly payout is principal x rate / 4 and each monthly payout principal x rate / 12, and the principal comes back at maturity. The effective annual yield line converts the quoted rate into its compounded equivalent, which is the fair way to compare two deposits with different compounding.
Calculation method
- Maturity A = P (1 + r/n)^(n t); P = deposit, r = annual rate / 100, n = compoundings a year (default 4), t = tenure in years (months / 12)
- Effective yield = (1 + r/n)^n - 1
- Quarterly payout = P x r / 4; monthly payout = P x r / 12
- Rounding: displayed to 2 decimals; banks may round each quarter's credited interest
Worked examples
Cumulative 5-year deposit
Inputs: 1,00,000 at 7% for 5 years, compounded quarterly
Result: Maturity 1,41,477.82; interest 41,477.82; effective yield 7.19%
20 quarterly compoundings at 1.75% each.
Quarterly payout deposit
Inputs: 5,00,000 at 7.25% for 3 years, quarterly payout
Result: 9,062.50 a quarter for 12 payouts; total interest 1,08,750.00
Payouts do not compound, so this is less than a cumulative deposit would earn.
Limitations
- Does not apply TDS, premature-withdrawal penalties or senior-citizen rate add-ons.
- Tenures that do not fit whole compounding periods are compounded fractionally; banks may pay simple interest on the odd days instead.
Where publishers use it
- Bank, NBFC and co-operative bank pages listing FD rates
- Senior-citizen finance blogs comparing monthly-income deposits
- Articles comparing FDs with debt funds or RDs
- Financial-literacy pages explaining compounding frequency
Questions
Why does the widget default to quarterly compounding?
It is a common basis for bank term deposits, and at 7% it gives an effective 7.19% a year. The compounding frequency is written in your deposit terms; change it in the widget if yours differs.
Is the monthly payout exactly rate / 12?
The widget shows the plain rate / 12 figure. Some banks pay a slightly lower 'discounted' monthly amount so that it matches quarterly compounding; your bank's schedule has the exact figure.
Is TDS deducted?
Interest on FDs is taxable income and banks can deduct tax at source above a threshold. The widget shows pre-tax figures because thresholds and rates depend on the depositor and change.
How much does monthly compounding add?
Very little: 1,00,000 at 7% for 5 years matures at 1,41,477.82 with quarterly compounding and 1,41,762.53 with monthly, an effective 7.19% against 7.23%.
Can I use it for an 18-month deposit?
Yes. Set 'Tenure in' to months: 1,00,000 at 7% for 18 months compounded quarterly matures at 1,10,970.24.
How does an FD compare with a recurring deposit?
An FD invests one lump sum on day one; an RD adds a fixed instalment every month, so each instalment earns for a shorter time and the maturity interest is lower for the same total. Use the SIP or Compound Interest widget with monthly contributions to approximate an RD.
